HELPING YOUR CHILD WITH THEIR LEARNING
You, as parents and carers, are the first and one of the
most important links in the chain of teaching and learning.
Learning starts as soon as children are born. As you teach
them to speak and to listen, you are laying the
foundations for learning.
Often as parents we worry about how to help children do
well at school. Research has shown that giving our
children time is one of the best things we can do. Children
who spend time with their parents achieve higher school
results.
Children love to spend time with you alone.
Teaching children to organise their time is another way
to support them at school.
Help your children to establish good habits. Make sure
they put away or hang up things as they walk in the door.
Schedule a regular homework time and stick to it.
A successful morning begins at night. Before your
children go to bed, help them set out everything they'll
need for school - uniform, lunch, drinks, readers,
permission slips.
Establish a regular bedtime. Children who fall asleep on
the couch at 11pm rarely rise and shine at 7:00am.
Ensure that your child has a good breakfast. Children
learn better on a full stomach. (Cereal, muffins, toast,
fruit and yoghurt are all good choices).
Take a minute to say
"I love you"
for a better start to each day
